This development underscores the growing importance of India-Israel relations in global diplomacy.
The conversation, confirmed by both leaders’ offices and shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), highlights India’s expanding diplomatic role in Middle East peace dialogue.
PM Modi’s Call Follows Discussion with US President Trump
The call between PM Modi and Netanyahu came shortly after the Indian Prime Minister spoke with Donald Trump regarding progress under the Gaza peace plan.
“Called my friend, Prime Minister Netanyahu, to congratulate him on the progress made under President Trump’s Gaza peace plan. We welcome the agreement on the release of hostages and enhanced humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza. Reaffirmed that terrorism in any form or manifestation is unacceptable anywhere in the world,” — Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on X.
Netanyahu’s Office Confirms the Call
According to the Israeli PMO, Netanyahu momentarily paused the security cabinet meeting — which was deliberating the Gaza ceasefire deal and hostage-release plan — to take the call with PM Modi.
The official statement, quoted by the Times of Israel, read:
“Prime Minister Modi congratulated Prime Minister Netanyahu on the agreement reached for the release of all the hostages.”
It further added that PM Modi reaffirmed the strong friendship between India and Israel, noting that Netanyahu “has always been a close friend and that their friendship will remain strong.” Netanyahu, in turn, thanked Modi for India’s consistent support and agreed to continue working in close cooperation on global and regional challenges.
PM Modi Praises Efforts for Peace
Earlier in the day, PM Modi publicly praised Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu for their efforts to end hostilities in Gaza and advance humanitarian measures, calling the hostage-release agreement a “step toward stability and peace in the region.”
This diplomatic engagement highlights India’s growing global influence and reflects how India-Israel relations are becoming increasingly significant in Middle East diplomacy.
A New Era of Strategic Diplomacy
The phone call between Modi and Netanyahu symbolizes more than a diplomatic courtesy. It showcases India’s evolving role as a credible global mediator, particularly in regions where humanitarian crises and international politics intersect.
With both leaders reaffirming their commitment to peace and cooperation, the exchange is likely to deepen India-Israel strategic ties, while aligning with broader international efforts to stabilize Gaza.
